About Me

I have practiced, studied and taught tai chi for 30 years and would like to invite you to join a class or workshop. I would also be happy to come to your school to offer a workshop in body mechanics of tai chi, form applications, push hands or yang style two person applications form.  

Elaine Waters began practicing tai chi in 1976 with Michael Gilman. In 1982 she began to train with Master Wm C C Chen, (author of Body Mechanics of Tai Chi Chuan), and Master Jou Tsung Hwa (author of The Tao of Tai Chi Chuan) She trained regularly in tai chi body mechanics, form applications, push hands, and free fighting with Master Wm C C Chen at Bloomington, IN workshops. She was certified to teach tai chi by Master Wm C C Chen in 1988, and began teaching in Springfield, MO.

From 1989-1991 Elaine spent 4 months each summer living and training with master Jou Tsung Hwa at the Tai Chi Farm in Warwick New York. At the Tai Chi Farm, Elaine had the opportunity to train and visit with the many famous tai chi teachers who taught there all summer. Jou Tsung Hwa taught Elaine the chen style tai chi forms, chi kung and push hands.  

Elaine began competition at the national tai chi tournament in Winchester, VA. In 1989 Elaine won first place in tai chi push hands, in 1990 she won grand champion in tai chi push hands and took silver in yang style form. She was invited at that time to join the US Tai Chi Team and travel to Taiwan for international competition. In November, 1990, she won 1st place in push hands in Taiwan. She returned to national competition one more time in 1991 and again took first place. In 1992 she began to serve as a judge and referee at tai chi tournaments around the US. She also began to teach push hands workshops to practitioners of many different styles, at the tournaments. Her performances at these events are available through “A Taste of China” and Tai Chi Legacy.

In 1993 Elaine began to study with Master T.K.Shih  in Qigong and Qi Healing. She learned techniques to clear a clients energy field and began to practice qi healing on clients in Fayetteville, AR. She also received her license as a massage therapist in 1993.

She offered a continuing education class for massage therapist, in tai chi body mechanics.

From 1996-1998 Elaine learned Master Fengs’ system of chen style tai chi form and silk reeling from Master Yang Yang. In 1999 Elaine studied with Chen Zhongua, the chen form, the Hunyuan chi kung set and further developed the dynamics of effortless power in the chen style stance. 

Elaine maintained weekly classes in Fayetteville, AR and workshops Little Rock, AR. from 1990-2000. Elaine has certified several students who trained with her for years in tai chi body mechanics, form applications, push hands, tai chi sword, and tai chi two-person applications form, chen style forms and silk reeling exercises.  Her students now teach in Fayetteville AR, Fort Smith, AR Little Rock, AR and Springfield, MO. 

Elaine lived in northern California from 2000-2005. She taught weekly classes as well as push hands workshops there. She also traveled regularly to offer tai chi push hands workshops in Eugene, OR and Berkeley, CA. Elaine expanded her classes to include sessions for seniors as well as for children.  

Elaine Waters is currently offering weekly classes in Leadville and Buena Vista Colorado, and monthly workshops in Frisco, Breckenridge, & Buena Vista Colorado. She offers credited tai chi classes at the Colorado Mountain College in Leadville and Buena Vista. She also offers workshops at Tai Chi Schools around the US.
